BECOME AN HSP VOLUNTEER Volunteers are currently needed for Pet Adoption days, special events, fundraisers, newsletter development, and marketing/public relations. Adoption Days -are held the first Sunday of the month (unless there is a major holiday) at the Animal Care Center. The hours are 10am-2pm. Also, the first Saturday of the month at Mallard Point Veterinary Clinic Fostering-Taking animals into your home during a holiday season or when the animal needs to recuperate from an illness. Adoption Counselors- Are needed on Saturday and Sundays from 10am-2pm at the Animal Care Center, to show available animals to potential adopters, socialize the animals, and if necessary clean kennels and groom animals. Community Events-Walking with a dog in the Homecoming parade, going to local festivals with the animals, also taking the dogs to a pool splash! Animal Transport-Transporting animals from locations and bringing them to HSP, also, helping when the animals arrive at HSP. Logging them into our system, helping make their charts and giving them a bath. Fund-raisers-Helping at fund raising events, like Tag Days, where we seek donations from the public. You could hold a donation can or hold the leash for one of the canine helpers! Planning Committee-This committee plans and organizes all fund raising events, from book sales to Santa pictures. We will meet quarterly and come up with fund raising ideas, as well as, finding locations and sponsors for the events. Community Service Hours-If you need community service hours for work or school, we can put you to work. Sorry, no court ordered service hours can be provided. There are a limited number of community service hour volunteer positions. If they are currently taken, your name can be add to a waiting list for future openings. Volunteers need to be 16 years or older, ages 12-15 must have an adult volunteer with them and accompany them to the activity VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you have a few hours a month that you can devote to helping animals find the loving homes they deserve, please call our voice mail at 815-436-2700 and leave a message that you want to volunteer and we will send you a volunteer application or we can email you the application. There's nothing more rewarding then investing your time and energy in helping homeless cats and dogs to find their forever homes. A lot of them need to be reminded that they are worthy of love and kindness and can you think of a better way to spend an afternoon than giving affection to some special animals. Then helping them become the family pets they where born to be. To be honest, when they walk out the door with their new family, you shed a few tears, but when you hear how great their doing in their home, you know it was worth your efforts.
