ADOPTION GUIDELINES Applicants must be 21 years old and provide picture identification. Before interacting with an animal, an adoption questionnaire must be completed. It will be reviewed by an HSP staff member and discussed with the applicant. If the applicants home is a rental/lease property, a copy of the rental agreement or by-laws describing pet allowances/restrictions must be reviewed by an HSP staff member and discussed with the applicant. If you are interested in a particular animal, you and the entire family, including children, living in the same household with the pet need to spend some time at the HSP facility getting acquainted with the animal. In addition, you are incouraged to bring other altered animals that will be living in the same household to meet the animal you are interested in. Please bring vaccine records with you. (Canine: Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, Negative Heartworm test results, negative fecal results) (Feline: Rabies, Distemper, Leukemia vaccine and/or negative test, negative fecal results) These will be required for adoption. Dogs and puppies will need to have a collar and leash and cats and kittens will need to have a carrier to go home in. If you do not have your own the Humane Society has some available for a small donation. Adoption fees range from $79 to $349 and are required before an animal leaves the HSP facility. This fee includes spay or neuter, rabies vaccine, first distemper vaccine, fecal test, first worming, heartworm test (if applicable), canine bordetella vaccine, feline leukemia test (if applicable), and an Avid microchip identification implant for the adopted animal. Heartworm prevention must also be purchased at the time of adoption. (Prices vary depending on type of prevention and size of the animal.) A fence may be required for specific dogs or breeds. We reserve the right to limit adoptions to a 50 mile radius. We recommend you check with your local Humane Society and/or Animal Control facility for animals in need of a home in your own area. Thank you
